Using Your Two Minds - two hours
Goal: Participants will understand the powers and limitations of both the intuitive (right brain) and analytical (left brain) parts of their minds. They will learn how to use them together to reach creative, well-thought-out decisions. There is a movement afoot in our society today to take advantage of our inner compass, our intuition. This is often accompanied with the idea that we really know what to do, we just have to recognize that and act on it. There is much truth in this idea but also a great deal of danger. Human intuition has been instrumental in many spectacular successes. It can often solve problems our conscious minds find impossible However intuition can be wrong - sometimes disastrously so - and has caused equally spectacular problems. This seminar is aimed at helping participants use the full power of the intuitive mind while avoiding the problems it can cause if used without discrimination. The seminar describes both the intuitive and analytic part of the mind, but emphasizes the intuitive side. Most people have a better understanding of the analytic, conscious mind than they do of the intuitive, unconscious part. We describe not only strengths and weaknesses of the intuitive mind, but how we can help it be even more effective by "feeding" it properly from the conscious mind. It also describes how to use the analytic mind to evaluate the ideas presented by the intuitive mind. Participants should come prepared to discuss some problem in their work or personal life, a problem with no obvioius solution. We will take time to examine some of those problems and how we might apply our two minds to them. |
